Aloe Vera

Aloe wants what a cactus wants: strong direct light and long dry stretches between waterings. A south-facing windowsill is the best seat in the house. It's also genuinely useful — snap off a leaf and the gel inside soothes a minor kitchen burn, which is reason enough for most people to keep one on the counter.
