Fernwell Plants

Our Story

Monstera, pothos and other houseplants on shelves in a sunlit glass plant room

Fernwell Plants started in 2019 on a windowsill in a one-bedroom apartment in Fremont, with a handful of pothos cuttings and a spreadsheet tracking which ones actually survived the winter. Most of what we sell now is the same knowledge from that spreadsheet, just applied at a bigger scale — we still test every plant we carry against Seattle’s actual light and humidity, not the growing conditions printed on a wholesale tag from somewhere warmer and sunnier.

We opened the storefront on Fremont Avenue in 2021, in a space with exactly the kind of inconsistent, filtered daylight most apartments have — which turned out to be the best possible showroom. If a plant looks good on our shop floor, it’ll look good in your living room.

We’re not trying to sell you the plant that looks best in a photo. We’re trying to sell you the plant that’s still alive in a year, which is why every product page leads with light, water, and pet safety before it ever gets to a price.
